Classic VITA: Classic VITA provides fully in-person tax preparation. Eligible taxpayers can visit a Classic VITA site in-person and receive tax preparation services on-site from a certified tax preparer that includes a quality review process before their tax return is finalized and filed. This process can take anywhere from 45 minutes to a couple of hours depending on how complicated the return is. Some Classic VITA sites require appointments, while others accept walk-ins, so it’s important to check before you go.

Leave & Retrieve VITA: At Leave & Retrieve VITA sites, taxpayers visit in person and undergo the Intake/Interview process, typically 20-30 minutes, before leaving all necessary documents needed to prepare the return. The taxpayer will then leave and certified tax preparers on-site will begin working on the tax return. The taxpayer will then need to comeback after a few hours or on a different day to participate in the quality review process and to retrieve their documents before the return can be finalized and filed.

Doc Drop & Go VITA (Intake-only): Doc Drop & Go VITA combines in-person and virtual services. Visit a Doc Drop & Go VITA site to complete the Intake/Interview process (typically 20-30 min) and then tax documents are scanned & securely uploaded to a virtual portal. After this, taxpayers will leave, & certified tax preparers at another VITA begin virtual preparation. Once prepared, taxpayers are contacted to complete quality review over the phone/online before the return is finalized & filed. These sites are walk-in only. Tax prep typically takes 7-10 days.
